South Africa’s influence in the global arena is back in the spotlight as the country hosts the first G20 Sherpas, Finance Deputies, and Central Bank Governors meeting in Sandton on Monday.
South Africa’s G20 Presidency begun in December, with only 12% of SDG targets on track and significant backsliding on more than 30%. As we write this today, there is an urgent need for a paradigm shift and practical solutions for a progressive, people-centred, and development-driven agenda in a fractured global landscape that needs collective healing.

The conferencing industry has welcomed the start of a series of engagements under South Africa’s G20 presidency. The first meeting of sherpas of the Group of 20 kicked off in Johannesburg today.

More than 230 experts from over 70 countries will gather at the Scoping Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 9 to 13 December to draft the outlines of the three Working Group contributions to the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Working Group contributions are the three key pillars of the IPCC’s periodical assessment reports. They include the Working Group I report on the Physical Science Basis, the Working Group II report on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability and the Working Group III report on Mitigation of Climate Change.
